It’s no secret that people love zombie games. From co-operative shooters like Left 4 Dead to story-driven titles like Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead, there’s something for everyone who loves the virus-ridden creatures. In recent years, open-world titles such as Dead Island and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare have been very successful; because of this, it’s hardly a surprise that DayZ, an open-world mod of military shooter ArmA II, has received so much fan support that it’s now set for release as a stand-alone game.
Players who are playing the DayZ mod via ArmA II and its Operation Arrowhead expansion will still receive updates alongside the future stand-alone title, which will use the same purchasing model as Minecraft; players who purchase the game before the final release will be able to do so at a discounted price. The publisher of the game will be none other than Bohemia Interactive, the developers of ArmA II.
It’s always great to see small mods make it big, and this news can only mean great things for the DayZ community. A release date for the stand-alone game has yet to be announced.
