Today’s Nintendo Direct saw the announcement of the next 3D entry in the Super Mario series, and it’s a successor to the 3DS’s Super Mario 3D Land.
Entitled, appropriately, Super Mario 3D World, the game features the same 2D/3D hybrid gameplay as its predecessor, with the addition of four-player co-op featuring Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad. Each character has their own style of gameplay (Peach can flutter jump, for example, while Toad runs really fast).
The game also sees a new power-up in the form of Cat Mario, which can run up walls and scratch enemies.
Super Mario 3D World will release on Wii U in December 2013.

This game confuses me. It’s not in 3D! Why does it exist?
Because it’s on a 3D plane?
But the point of 3D Land was that it could be played like a sidescroller because you would be able to judge depth for you jumps correctly with 3D on. Instead of having Goombas home in on you and run like in SM64 as a way of improving aim.
No 3D on Wii U, so why bring the sequel there when it was the selling point of the game.
The new footage of this game looks great! I really want this now as opposed to NSMBU (really don’t want that).
Still don’t like the name though since it’s not 3D!!!
