At Bethesda’s E3 showcase, Todd Howard shared a lot of info about the next entry in the Fallout series, revealing that it will be coming out on November 11, 2015 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
Howard showed off the premise of the game, in which you are the sole survivor of Vault 111, two hundred years after the bombs dropped. The initial character creation, however, takes place beforehand, on a sunny Saturday morning. As news of the nuclear bombs breaks, you’ll rush to the vault just in time to see the mushroom cloud in the distance before fast-forwarding 200 years later.
The game will be playable in either third or first person and runs on a next-gen version of the Creation engine used in Skyrim. Set in the ruins of the Boston area, it allows you to not only go around completing missions, but also build settlements and allow people to join the communities. You can create caravans, fend off raider attacks, and set up defense mechanisms and infrastructure for your settlement as well.
Fallout 4 also features a robust weapon customization as well as the ability to create and modify power armor for your character. The VATS system also returns in an expanded form, and a dog companion can function as a point and click scavenger and retriever as well as fighting companion. An upgraded Pip-Boy features the standard character, inventory, and item information, but also allows for minigames such as Donkey Kong and Missile Command clones.
The collector’s edition of the game features an actual Pip-Boy replica that can fit on your wrist. By downloading an app to your phone, you can insert it into the Pip-Boy and use it much as you do in-game. The Pip-Boy Edition retails for $119.99 and can be preordered now.
