Earlier this year, Microsoft announced that a new update for the Xbox 360 would be released in the coming months. The update would cause a complete overhaul to the design of the dashboard, similar to the update released in 2008. Today, Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced that the update will be released for all users on December 6.
The update will redesign the dashboard’s interface, changing it to resemble Microsoft’s Windows 8 and Windows Phone 7 operating systems. The update will also add new features for users. Some of the features include:
- Cloud storage for Xbox Live profiles and game saves
- Beacons, allowing users to notify friends of games they would like to play via Xbox Live and Facebook
- Kinect functionality for the main dashboard
- Bing-powered search with Kinect functionality
- Enhanced family settings
Additionally, Microsoft will be adding more features in the coming months, such as YouTube support, Skype, and the ability to watch various television stations. The update is expected to make navigation easier for users.
