The origin of 4P Games can be traced back to 2007, when Nintendo Net was originally founded as a forum created in response to the closing of the official NSider Forums. The forums were successful, bringing together a passionate group of Nintendo fans from all over the globe, and eventually a website was created to accompany the forums. In mid-2009, after Nintendo Net entered its twilight, a group of four people got together to make a new gaming site. Since there were four originally involved in the project, and they all had their minds in the gutter, FourPlay seemed like the perfect “witty” name for the site. Other obligations got in the way though, and soon only one of the original four was left: Geoff, who owned Nintendo Net from the very beginning. Finally, after almost a two year hiatus, FourPlay Games was officially launched on May 10th, 2011. Due to issues with the theme and coding, v2 of the site was rolled out a few weeks later.
Over the course of the next year, 4P began taking off. We began making contacts within the industry, our traffic increased, and our content base started expanding. With all this new exposure, we decided it was time to establish a more professional presence. The site was rebranded to 4P Games, a new sleeker design was unveiled, and the forum software was upgraded. After almost a full day of downtime, the new 4P Games (v3) and 4P Forums (v2) were officially brought online on August 16, 2012.
In late 2014, the site went on a several-month hiatus. On April 23, 2015, 4P Games v4 rolled out with a sleek, modern, mobile-responsive design, and regular updates resumed in May. 4P Forums v3 followed in June 2015, with a new software and theme, as well as a ton of new features including trophies, leveling, Gamercards, and social media integration.
At 4P, we pride ourselves on offering reviews and content that is on the quality of a professional site, while still remaining independent. This means we don’t receive advertising money from game companies or get “encouraged” to give games high scores or positive press. What you see here is our honest opinion based on nothing but our own judgment and experience with the game. For more information, check out our Ethics Policy and our Review Policy.
At the same time, we’re all serious gamers in our own right, so we put our own excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for games into our features – which range from lighthearted fun to serious “Soapbox” discussion about the state of the game industry today.
