Nintendo is kicking off the year big with its first Nintendo Direct, officially unveiling the sixth generation of Pokémon. Titled Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, the games will feature full 3D graphics, a combination of old and new monsters, and other new gameplay elements.
During the Nintendo Direct trailer, the starters were unveiled: Chespin, a Grass-type squirrel/chipmunk, Fennekin, a Fire-type fox, and Froakie, a Water-type frog. In addition, the title legendaries were shown, though no names or information were given.
The games’ environments are rendered in vivid, colorful 3D graphics, and battle scenes take on a cel-shaded 3D rendering style with a lot of cinematic flair for attacks.
In a first for the series, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will receive a simultaneous worldwide release on 3DS in October 2013. It looks like the wait won’t be too much longer for the full 3D Pokémon adventure we’ve all wanted for years!
