Every Super Smash Bros. game since GameCube’s Melee has added several new characters, while also removing others; one example is the newly released Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, which removed fan-favorite characters such as StarFox‘s Wolf and the Ice Climbers. However, some may have the potential to return to the series, as Nintendo has announced Pokémon number 150 is returning in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

Announced during a Smash-focused Nintendo Direct today, Mewtwo will be making a return as a playable character in the new games by way of downloadable content next spring. While the character will be post-launch downloadable content, anyone who buys both the 3DS and Wii U Smash Bros. games will receive the character free of charge. This is in addition to a two-disc soundtrack, as announced earlier in the year.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was released earlier this month in non-Japanese regions. Super Smash Bros. for Wii U releases in North America on November 21, in Europe on December 5, and in Australia and Japan on December 6.

Oh, how I’ve missed you Mewtwo.

I used him a lot in Melee. I’m hoping this can be bought and isn’t exclusive to owning both games. Because I have no interest in the 3DS game and I’m sure purchasing DLC would be cheaper than buying the other game lol
Also, that was a great Direct! I was always going to buy the game regardless, but I just wasn’t… every really particular impressed with anything they had shown thus far? But after this direct, I am pumped.
Going to have to start a regular Smash group on Skype to go along my Kart group I think. Fun times with the Wii U ahead
Two things:
1.) Mewtwo’s final smash must be Mega Mewtwo X
2.) I hope they re-use Mewtwo’s voice work from Melee. Mewtwo sounded so cool in that game with its sinister laughs.
I dunno. How does Mewtwo sound in the anime nowadays? Has he been featured at all recently?
Not that he sounded anything like the anime in the days Melee, but still.
