Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that Pikmin 4 is not only in development, but is “very close to completion.”
In an exclusive interview with Eurogamer in July, Miyamoto revealed the existence of the game as well as its development status. Nintendo has since confirmed that the game is in development, but would not reveal any further information.
Pikmin 3, the most recent entry in the series, was released for Wii U in 2013. With Nintendo’s NX platform on the horizon and scheduled to be revealed in 2016, it seems plausible that the sequel may skip the Wii U and be released for NX, but that’s just an assumption at this point. However, Nintendo has stated that they will continue to support Wii U and 3DS after NX’s release (where have we heard that before?) so we’ll just have to wait until an official announcement.

Yaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!
I did not expect this, or at least not so soon. Given the decade’s long gap between Pikmin 2 and 3, and 3 being the Wii U’s launch title… I’d imagine it hasn’t sold as well as intended/expected.
But, we’re still getting more Pikmin love anyway, and in a timely fashion. So happy o/
