Final Fantasy XIV Version 2.0 Coming, Along with PS3 Version

Square Enix will begin charging a monthly subscription fee for Final Fantasy XIV, ending the almost year-long free access resulting from the game’s unmitigated disaster of a launch. Square is calling this almost-relaunch “Version 2.0” – now that the game has been patched to death to fix up the issues from launch.

The subscription fees will begin sometime between late November and early December, with further information about pricing coming later. Square will continue to roll out patches and add new content to the game after the free-to-play period ends.

Square also revealed that the PlayStation 3 version of the game, rumored to be abandoned, is still being actively developed and will be released in Q4 2012.
