During Nintendo’s digital event today, Nintendo revealed “Amiibo” – a product similar to Skylander and Disney Infinity collectable figurines. These amiibo will include NFC chips and when combined with a Wii U gamepad, appear in compatible games and with the ability to be used as playable characters.
Amiibo marks Nintendo’s entry into the “toys to life category”, as described by Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. Amiibo will debut alongside Super Smash Bros. for Wii U this holiday season.
Each figure will have its own set of abilities and skills and will work with a number of titles. Super Smash Bros. integration is just the tip of the iceberg. Amiibo is being designed and worked into several games, even ones already released like Mario Kart 8. Nintendo will be releasing more details on Amiibo “soon”.

I’m… really not interested in this.
And the name, Amiibo, makes me think of yogurt
I’m not interested either.
And they should have been called Amiigos
