Late last week, Variety reported that Sony Pictures and Ubisoft were close to sorting out a deal that would allow the former to create and release a film based off of Ubisoft’s hit Assassin’s Creed franchise.
While neither Sony Pictures nor Ubisoft has released an official announcement regarding the matter, shortly after news broke of the reported deal, Sony Pictures registered sixteen website domain names, all of which included the phrase “Assassin’s Creed [The] Movie/Film.” This all but confirms that the group is working towards releasing a film based on Ubisoft’s franchise.
The Assassin’s Creed franchise revolves around the use of modern-day technology to explore the memories of one’s ancestors. In the video games, this has led to engaging tales set in the Crusades and the Renaissance, while in other media, settings such as Soviet Russia have been used. If a movie is made, one can only assume it will follow a similar premise.
