After numerous hoaxes in the past, Capcom may finally be ready to announce the sixth installment of its survival horror series.
Earlier today, several GameStop stores received promotional displays for Resident Evil 6, revealing a supposed release date of November 20, 2012 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. One of the displays in question can be seen above, courtesy of IGN.
Additionally, sources from within Capcom have informed GamesBeat that the upcoming game will feature several main playable characters. Series familiars Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield will be playable; Ada Wong will also be playable, although to what extent is currently unknown. Going against rumors that the game may be outsourced to an outside studio, similar to what Capcom has done with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the game is said to be developed by the same internal team that created the fourth and fifth Resident Evil titles. Despite this, however, the team is looking to strike a perfect balance between the horror gameplay of Resident Evil 4 and the action gameplay of Resident Evil 5.
Capcom is expected to officially announce Resident Evil 6 later today via a viral marketing campaign known as No Hope Left.
