With recent promises that information on a new Pokémon game would be revealed this weekend, many assumed that a new spin-off was about to be announced, or perhaps the inevitable third counterpart to Pokémon Black and White. If you guessed it was the latter, then you’re correct… twice.
Announced via the official Pokémon website, Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2 are set to be released on the Nintendo DS later this year in North America, while it will arrive sometime in June in Japan. While no story or gameplay elements regarding the games have been revealed, it can be assumed that for the first time in the main series’s history, the games will be direct sequels to their predecessors. Additionally, artwork for the games has been released, which can be seen above. The artwork shows two new formes for the Pokémon Kyurem: one forme seems to be based on Zekrom, the mascot for Pokémon White, while the other is related to Reshiram, Pokémon Black’s mascot.
More information on the games is set to be released in the near future.
