It’s been almost a year and a half since Harmonix released Rock Band 3. Since then, it has released two games in its Dance Central series, but now, the developer is returning to the series that revolutionized console music games with Rock Band Blitz.

Unlike other console Rock Band games, Blitz forgoes the use of instrument-like controllers in favor of standard ones, which means that buyers don’t need to shell out a ton of money just to play the game. Players will hit notes in tune with the song that is playing, while at the same time managing four different instrument tracks: guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. All 3,000+ pre-existing Rock Band series songs will be compatible with the game, which will also introduce new songs to the series, such as “Always” by Blink-182 and “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield. The game will ship with 25 songs included, all of which can be imported for use in Rock Band 3.
Rock Band Blitz is set for release this summer on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
