An image circulating around the internet supposedly confirms a new game set in Final Fantasy XII’s and Final Fantasy Tactics’ universe.
The above image was supposedly found on a Square Enix server, and seems to confirm a game currently in development by Square Enix and Eidos Montreal titled Valiant Saga: Final Fantasy. The description given for the game is as follows:
Ten years after FINAL FANTASY XII, in the Leá Monde region of Nabradia. A fanatical cult leader has taken up residence in the eldritch Fortress of Faram, above which has suddenly appeared a mysterious floating artifact called the Gate of Lucav. The cult leader believes it to be the gateway to paradise, but an emissary from the northern Holy Ydoran Empire claims it to be an ancient weapon with the power to destroy all of Ivalice. The Queen of Dalmasca, figurehead of the delicate New Alliance, must petition a lone mercenary to infiltrate the Fortress and prevent the cult from harnessing the forbidden magicks housed within the Gate.
In addition to the image, a newly-made Twitter account has been discovered that claims to be the official account for the game.
It’s possible that the game may end up being real. The world of Ivalice has been used for numerous games in the past; in fact, Final Fantasy Tactics introduced the setting long before the release of Final Fantasy XII. Even games outside of the Final Fantasy brand have taken place in Ivalice, such as Vagrant Story for the PlayStation.
It’s also possible that Valiant Saga is the successor to the supposedly canceled Ivalice-based game, Fortress. Originally developed by GRIN, Square Enix stopped work on the project due to a lack of quality from the developer. With the recent success seen in the company’s Eidos Montreal studio, the game may have been handed off to them for completion.
If the game is indeed real, then it’s possible that it will be revealed at this year’s E3. Stay tuned to 4P for more updates on both Final Fantasy and E3 2012.
