Nintendo introduced Miiverse, its social gaming network, late last year. Within the coming months, Miiverse access will spread to other platforms, including mobile phones and the Nintendo 3DS.
Speaking at the Game Developer Conference this evening, Miiverse producer Kiyoshi Mizuki announced that Nintendo is aiming to have web and smartphone applications for Miiverse released by this May. These apps will allow users to post comments and drawings to the network’s various Wii U game communities, be they for New Super Mario Bros. U or Mass Effect 3: Special Edition. After smartphone and web browser support is rolled out, Nintendo will release Miiverse integration for Nintendo 3DS owners, allowing access to Wii U game communities as well as new communities created for 3DS titles. While some legacy 3DS titles and applications will receive Miiverse communities, not all will be supported.
With Nintendo’s second major attempt at a social community – rest in peace, NSider – coming to more platforms in the near future, are you excited to see more people join Miiverse? Let us know in the comments section below.
