Following much speculation, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and “Moby Dick Studios'” The Phantom Pain are, in reality, Metal Gear Solid V.
During his presentation earlier today at the Game Developers Conference, Hideo Kojima confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are two parts of the same game, that game being Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Similar to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty with its Tanker and Plant chapters, Ground Zeroes is the prologue of Metal Gear Solid V and takes place immediately after Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, while The Phantom Pain is the second portion. Following Ground Zeroes, Big Boss – no longer voiced by series veteran David Hayter – falls into a coma and awakens after nine years, setting the stage for The Phantom Pain. Metal Gear Solid V runs on Kojima Productions’ Fox Engine, and as previously announced for Ground Zeroes, is an open-world action-stealth title that gives players a variety of ways to complete objectives.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is currently in development at Kojima Productions, and is set for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
