The holiday season is nearly upon us and this year has the potential to be one of the best for gamers in recently memory. Not only is there a plethora of video games coming out of the highest profile, but they include some of the BIGGEST names in gaming. In this edition of Klippy’s Corner, I will outline some of my potential buys for this holiday and even include a small section of old releases I’m dying to get my hands on.
Destiny – Releasing September 9 – PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
Possibly one of the most hyped releases this year, Destiny will be bringing everything it has to help Bungie establish that it isn’t just “that Halo company.” It looks to be an amazing experience and I know dozens of friends already lining up to get this game. I hope reviews prove favorable and if they do, I’ll be sweating myself for not having a new console to play it on!
Hyrule Warriors – Releasing September 26 – Wii U
Dynasty Warriors made sweet, sweet love to Legend of Zelda? Um… YES PLEASE! This has to be one of my most anticipated releases and I am hearing great things about the game if you’re a Dynasty fan or a Zelda fan. I’m really excited to explore the amazing world of Zelda while changing up the usual play-style of a typical Zelda game. Talk about a day-one buy for this guy.
Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth – October 21 – PC
Let’s get real here… Civilization: Beyond Earth is basically a mutated version of its usual self…with giant alien hordes and unbelievably unique environments unlike anything you’ve seen in a Civ game before. Think Starcraft x Civ… only more turn-based and less in-your-face.
Bayonetta 2 – October 24 – Wii U
An unexpected sequel on a deserving system, Bayonetta 2 promises to up the antics and even provide some fan-service for those beloved Nintendo characters with fun costumes and easter eggs. Bayonetta is included with its sequel and that makes this game a 200% great deal for the price of a single title. If you own a Wii U and have not played the first title, then this is your chance to experience a zany, over-the-top world now exclusive to the Wii U.
Far Cry 4 – November 18 – PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC
Two words: Freaking rhinos. If you don’t want this game, then what IS wrong with YOU!?
Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U – October 3/TBA – 3DS/Wii U
Who doesn’t love this series? Only the Devil himself. Bringing in a huge roster of fighters, including personal favorite, the Villager from Animal Crossing, Smash 4 promises to be the best of the series yet. With the new Amiibos coming out, you can get your collectables fix AND get some extra goodies for your Smash game(s) and beyond.
Klippy’s Biggest Wish: Smash 4! I lack the PS4 and Xbox One, so the Wii U must satiate my needs. Smash will be the euphoric boost I need to get that good Nintendo fix, but Smash 4 is looking absolutely fantastic and I am more than excited to see what fun I can have with friends and family battling at home and online. If the online is anywhere near as good as it is in Mario Kart 8, then we are in for a real treat.
Also on Klippy’s List:
Super Mario 3D World – Wii U
Wonderful 101 – Wii U
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze – Wii U
Pikmin 3 – Wii U
The Escapists – PC
Dead State – PC
Prison Architect – PC
Side Note: I am absolutely aware of titles like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare AND Assassin’s Creed: Unity, but I have absolutely no interest in these titles. This is my personal wishlist and unfortunately for both series, I am just sick of playing them (see my article on Sequel Fatigue). Neither has sparked any interest for me and I cannot imagine myself playing even a minute of either. I am sure some people will be excited for them, but Santa…please don’t put them on my list.
This holiday season, I’m hoping to receive/pick up the following:
And maybe some others. That’s all that comes to mind at the moment
