Square Enix has officially unveiled Dragon Quest X at a special event. The game will be an “online RPG” similar to an MMO, with subscription fees and an internet connection required. This stands as a big disappointment for people hoping for the last big RPG on Wii.
DQX uses a similar cel-shaded visual style to Dragon Quest VIII on PS2, and will release on both Wii and Wii U sometime next year. The two versions will be cross-platform compatible and may also have 3DS compatibility.
