To say that Final Fantasy XIII-2 ended with a cliffhanger is a bit of an understatement. While the game’s downloadable episodes attempted to shed light on its ending, particularly the episode featuring Lightning as a playable character, the game still has many unresolved plot points. Luckily, fans who were left wanting more may have their appetite whet in the near future.

Speaking with Famitsu magazine, the director of the Final Fantasy XIII games, Motomu Toriyama, had this to say regarding the game’s story:
The [FFXIII-2] Lightning download content had an ending that left a feeling mystery and hope. The day when the meaning of this will come to light is not too far off.
Toriyama also spoke of Final Fantasy X HD, which is scheduled to be released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita sometime in the future:
Regarding HD conversions, there is a lot to look into, so please wait a bit more.
While it seems like we may have to wait a while before seeing Final Fantasy X in glorious high-definition visuals, it sounds to me like Square Enix may reveal Final Fantasy XIII-3 by the end of the year. As a fan who was absolutely stunned by Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s ending, I’m anxiously awaiting the next game in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, so long as that game isn’t Final Fantasy Versus XIII.
