Unless you’ve been living under a rock since 1997, you’ve hopefully played Final Fantasy VII at some point or another. If you have been living under a rock, first off, shame on you for not trying a great RPG; second, Square Enix is releasing a new PC port of the game, with new features that may interest you.

While it’s unknown if this port is based on the one released by Eidos in 1998, it is stated that the new release will be optimized for current PC hardware, and will feature several additions. First is the addition of 36 achievements, which can be shared with friends. Also included is a “Character Booster,” which allows players to increase their HP, MP, and Gil amounts to their maximum levels. Finally, Square Enix is allowing the use of cloud saves, meaning that players can pick up where they left off no matter what computer they’re using, provided they have an internet connection.
Also revealed were the minimum requirements to run the re-release, which can be seen below:
- Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 operating system, 32- or 64-bit
- A 2GHz or faster processor
- At least 1 gigabyte of RAM
- A DirectX 9-compatible graphic card
The new PC version of Final Fantasy VII will be released soon exclusively through the Square Enix Store.
I’m really curious to see what the achievements will be but I probably won’t pick this up. If I’m gonna play FFVII on computer, I’ll just grab an old version and mod it so it looks/plays better. :/
I doubt I’ll get it either. PC achievements are nice, but unless the game is Steamworks-compatible, they mean nothing to me. Plus, I already own the game on PSN, so… The only reason I’d pick this up is if they retranslated the script to not be atrocious.
