Update: According to Kotaku, Patrick Seybold – Sony’s senior director of corporate communications – has confirmed that The Last Guardian has not been canceled. It would seem that the game’s “cancellation” was simply an error on GameStop’s end.

With Fumito Ueda and Yoshifusa Hayama leaving Team Ico, many prepared for the worst in regards to the team’s highly anticipated The Last Guardian. Now, it seems the worst has come.
Today, GameStop began calling customers who have pre-ordered the upcoming PlayStation 3 game to inform them that their pre-order has been canceled due to the game itself being canceled. While this may not be official confirmation of the game’s cancellation, it’s hard to believe a retailer would cancel pre-orders for a highly anticipated game without full confirmation that it won’t be released.
Sony has yet to comment on this matter. Until they do, this will be treated as a rumor.
