Over the past few years, HD remasters have become increasingly popular as ways for developers and publishers to earn more money without having to develop entirely new games. Sony in particular has been a fan of the method, releasing no less than four remastered collections for PlayStation 3. It would seem that they have no intent of slowing down the train, as new plans have been announced for upcoming collections.
Going forward, all Sony-released collections will be released under the PlayStation Collection brand, featuring a gold strip along the top of the boxes’ covers. The first collection to be released under this name will be this month’s Ratchet & Clank Collection, which includes Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, and a demo of the PlayStation 3 version of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.
In addition to the Ratchet & Clank Collection, Sony plans on releasing two other collections under the new banner. The first of these is the God of War Saga Collection, which combines the God of War Collection (God of War, God of War II) and God of War Origins Collection (God of War: Chains of Olympus, God of War: Ghost of Sparta) while also adding God of War III and a free one-month voucher for PlayStation Plus.
The third collection set for release is the inFamous Collection, which includes both of Sucker Punch’s open-world inFamous games, as well as the stand-alone inFamous 2 spin-off inFamous: Festival of Blood. In addition to these three games, the collection features extra missions, character costumes, power ups, and weapon styles.
While pricing details are vague, with the collections “starting at $29.99,” all three collections will be released on August 28 in North America. A release of the God of War Saga Collection and inFamous Collection in other countries has yet to be announced; however, the Ratchet & Clank Collection was released in Europe on June 29.
Update: Sony has confirmed that the Ratchet & Clank Collection will retail for $29.99, while the God of War Collection and inFamous Collection will be sold for $39.99 each.
