Update: According to Xbox’s Major Nelson, the May 21 event will be used for a preliminary unveiling of the new console, while Microsoft’s E3 press conference on June 11 will detail the company’s full lineup of games for the system.
Original story: The Wii U has already been released, and the PlayStation 4 was revealed two months ago. Now, Microsoft is set to announce its own next-generation system on May 21.
Today, Microsoft updated its Xbox website, Facebook page, and Twitter page with information regarding the next Xbox’s event. While little has been said by the company, it has confirmed that the reveal of “a new generation” is dated for Tuesday, May 21 at 10:00 AM PDT, or 1:00 PM EST.
Commonly referred to as the “Xbox 720” or its codename of Durango, the next Xbox has come under much speculation ever since Sony’s PlayStation 4 reveal back in February. According to popular rumors, the system will not only feature a boost in power as is expected from a next-generation platform, but it will supposedly also require players to always be connected to the Internet in order to play games. In addition, the system is rumored to have a mechanism in place to prevent the playing of pre-owned video games. While nothing is concrete at this time, all of these rumors should be confirmed or denied come May 21.
4P Games will bring you more news on the next Xbox as it develops.
