Update: In a press release sent by Square Enix, the company announced that Final Fantasy XV is not only coming to PlayStation 4, but also Xbox One. The statement also revealed that despite the jump to another generation of platforms and the game’s title change, the project’s story, characters, locations, and gameplay mechanics will remain the same as they have always been, with the generational jump simply giving the team more power to use for developing the game.
Original story: After numerous rumors, game director Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is now Final Fantasy XV.
During Sony’s E3 press conference, a pre-recorded message from Nomura was played. In the video, Nomura stated that while he didn’t have any time to givenew information regarding the long-in-development game himself, more information would be given over the course of this week. Afterwards, a new trailer for Versus played, and at the end, it was revealed that the game has now been renamed as Final Fantasy XV, and will be released on PlayStation 4 rather than PlayStation 3, the original platform for the project when it was first announced in 2006. The trailer can be viewed above.
4P will bring you more news on Final Fantasy XV as it develops.

Haha, as they refreshed the name from Versus XIII in the trailer, I was in the midst of typing how I was surprised they didn’t just outright turn it into FFXV. I’m glad they did. If it was just another XIII universe spin off (I use the term lightly), it wouldn’t be worthy of keeping around all this time. But as a full-fledged numbered entry in the series? They can justify kicking it around in development for this many years. I mean, it’s still ridiculous, but at least the number makes it sound worth it.
I liked all the cutsenes of the trailer. The action gameplay suffered from the same thing I was whining about re: FFXIII LR in the other thread but hopefully it either looks better if you’re playing it yourself or they haven’t really finished with it yet.
