Originally set to be released last year, Ubisoft’s Watch_Dogs suffered from a long delay just weeks before the game was originally planned to hit store shelves. While most platforms received the open-world game this past May, one version of the game was noticeably absent: the Wii U version, originally announced in February of last year. Thankfully, Ubisoft has finally put to rest rumors of its cancellation with new details on the Wii U version’s exclusive features, as well as the game’s release date.
The Wii U version of Watch_Dogs (not depicted above; the above trailer was released earlier this year) will largely feature the same content as the versions released earlier this year for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows PC. In terms of additional features, the upcoming release will support GamePad functionality, with users being able to view an interactive map of Chicago on the controller’s screen while displaying the game itself on the television. In addition, the game will support off-TV play on the GamePad. Ubisoft has not stated if the game’s downloadable content or pre-order bonuses will be available in some way on Wii U, nor has it confirmed if the other versions’ various online multiplayer modes will be included with the game.
Watch_Dogs will be available for Wii U in North America on November 18, and in Europe on November 21. While previous versions of the game were primarily handled by Ubisoft Montreal, the Wii U version is being developed by Ubisoft Bucharest.
Too late. Not interested anymore, especially now that I know it’s plain mediocre.
I’m enjoying it a lot on PC, but I really hope Ubisoft doesn’t complain about the Wii U version not selling well. They waited way too long to release it, and I’ll be surprised if it actually supports any form of multiplayer. Those things, coupled with the fact that the game probably won’t support any downloadable content, make me doubt it’s going to perform well.
Again, I like the game, but this version is going to bomb.
