Last year, Sony and Insomniac Games announced that the latter would be developing a brand new Ratchet & Clank title for PlayStation 4 to tie in with the upcoming animated film based on the series. Today, Insomniac has given fans a first look at the game, as well as details on what exactly it is.
Simply titled Ratchet & Clank, the upcoming 3D action-platformer is a “re-imagining” of the series’ first game. However, on the official PlayStation Blog, Insomniac’s James Stevenson clarifies that it isn’t a simple remake: the game takes inspiration from earlier games in the series, but remixes the story to fit with that of the upcoming movie while also implementing elements of the Future sub-series from PlayStation 3. As a result, Stevenson claims, the game features several new planets, updated controls and gameplay segments, new flight and boss fight scenarios, and – because this is a Ratchet game – new weapons. One of the new weapons detailed in the blog post is called the Pixelizer, which makes enemies explode into… well, pixels. If you’d like to see some of the game in action, the debut trailer is viewable above.
Ratchet & Clank will be released for PlayStation 4 in Spring 2016, alongside the upcoming film from Rainmaker Entertainment.
