Licensed game in disguise
One of the more surprising releases from 2014 was a downloadable game from Activision and Platinum Games based on the Nickelodeon series The Legend of Korra. The budget release saw moderate success from critics, which may make it no surprise that Activision and Platinum are teaming up for another game, this time set in Hasbro’s Transformers universe.
Its existence leaked by Best Buy Canada, the game is titled Transformers: Devastation, and is a 3D action game seemingly similar in gameplay to Platinum’s other titles: players can use counterattacks and combos to take down enemies. The game also makes full use of the Transformers brand by letting playable characters go from robot to vehicle, and including five playable Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Grimlock, Wheeljack, and Sideswipe. Finally, several characters are voiced by the same actors from the original Transformers cartoon, such as Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime and Frank Welker as Decepticon leader Megatron.
As the game has yet to be officially announced, not much information about it is known, though Best Buy lists its release date as October 6. We’ll keep you posted as more information comes up.
