EA announced today that it has bought out casual gaming giant PopCap for a price of $650 million plus $100 million in stock. Discounting any potential regulatory snags, the acquisition will close in August. EA plans to expand PopCap’s games to a more global, social market, and the company’s IPs such as Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies, and Bejeweled will become a major part of the publisher’s digital distribution business.
