While Nintendo may not be planning on creating games for iOS or Android, it is bringing some of its content to devices other than its own… but not in a way you may be expecting.
During Nintendo’s briefing for the next fiscal year, several new features for the Nintendo 3DS were announced. As a part of the next system update for the handheld, a feature will be added that allows users to take photos of QR codes seen on the internet, on advertisements, or elsewhere that lead to specific products on the eShop. Eventually, Nintendo will expand this feature to allow smartphones to decode the QR codes, letting consumers purchase content from their phones. In addition, consumers will be able to purchase content via their home computers.
Nintendo has yet to say when they will allow the purchasing of content outside of their own devices, but with it finally being announced, it shouldn’t be too far off.
