Konami’s Metal Gear Solid 4 launched in 2008 to critical acclaim. This year, however, the game’s online component is set to be taken offline.
Metal Gear Online’s online shop will be closed on March 21, while registration for new players will become unavailable beginning April 24. On that same day, however, all of the game’s expansion and Preset Codec Message Appeal packs will be available for free to pre-existing players. Finally, on June 12, exactly four years after the game’s release, Metal Gear Online will be completely shut down.
Metal Gear Solid 4 was one of 2008’s biggest releases, and was very well-received for its story and gameplay. While Metal Gear Online’s closing may sadden some, the game’s single player portion should still satisfy most fans.
