The Walking Dead has seen several games released based on the comics and television show, ranging from a comic-based episodic series to a first-person shooter focused on TV show characters Daryl and Merle. Today, another game based on the popular franchise has been announced.
Titled Overkill’s The Walking Dead, the game was announced today in a press release issued by Starbreeze Studios, the parent company of Payday developer Overkill Software. The game is said to be a first-person shooter with co-operative gameplay, focusing on “action, role-playing, survival horror, and stealth.” The game is set in the comic’s universe, will feature new characters in Washington, a location not yet explored in other forms of The Walking Dead media. The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman is assisting Overkill with the game’s development.
In celebration of the announcement, Overkill has added a new weapon to Payday 2 at no extra cost: the barbwire-covered baseball bat Lucille, featured in the Walking Dead comics as the weapon of choice for the antagonist Negan.
Overkill’s The Walking Dead is currently set for release in 2016. No platforms for the game have been announced.
