One of this year’s most content-complete releases is going to have even more content added in a day-one patch.
Earlier today, Halo developers 343 Industries announced that work on their next release – a collection of the first four main Halo games dubbed The Master Chief Collection – has now been completed. While this marks a huge milestone for the team, as they have now ported four games to Xbox One for a single release with one overarching interface, it also marks a huge game: not only does the game take up nearly 45GB on a Blu ray disc, it will also have a 20-gigabyte update that will be available on launch day which adds several features, including multiplayer content. On the official Halo website, 343 Industries executive producer Dan Ayoub said the following:
From the start, our philosophy has been to give Halo fans the best possible experience and not compromise the quality or features of the collection. The result is that Halo: The Master Chief Collection will take up almost all of the usable space of a single Blu-ray (45 GB), and we will also issue a content update at launch that is estimated to be 20 GB. You’ll be able to start playing Campaign and more as the content is installing, with some features and multiplayer content being added via the update. Yes, the update is large, but we weren’t about to cut corners to save disc space. This ensures that you are getting every bit of Halo goodness we can fit in. Our work is not done, however, as we continue to tune, tweak and optimize the online experience to ensure a smooth multiplayer launch. This will continue right up until launch day.
Alongside the announcement of the fairly large day-one update, Ayoub revealed that Spartan Ops, the fifty-episode second campaign from Halo 4, will become available in The Master Chief Collection sometime in December, in addition to the previously announced multiplayer beta for Halo 5: Guardians.
Halo: The Master Chief Collection releases in North America on November 11, exclusively for Xbox One. Digital pre-orders of the game can be pre-loaded beginning today.
