Sony has announced a redesign of its under-utilized PlayStation Home service, coming this fall. The new design will feature themed districts, quests, and a greater focus on making Home a “world of games” rather than just a simple virtual environment.
“PlayStation Home’s new core experience is a giant leap in the evolution of the platform, not to mention a major milestone for PlayStation Network, and its new modelquickly deploys our users to many compelling free-to-play games that fit their interests,” said Jack Buser, director of PlayStation Home, SCEA. “With this update, coming this fall, PlayStation Home becomes a game itself, making it the most robust gamified social experience available.”
The redesign will feature The Hub, an area for gamers to congregate after logging in. From there, gamers can participate in quests, or be directed into one of four districts dedicated to a certain type of game. Sony also hopes for better game integration and a more streamlined Home experience.
