When Battlefield 3 released late last year, EA and DICE made it well-known that the game’s first expansion pack, Back to Karkand, would be released close to launch, with more expansions to follow. While they followed through on their first promise, they kept quiet on future downloadable content. Now, EA has announced the next three expansions for the game.
The next DLC for the game is titled Close Quarters. While Back to Karkand was comprised of several new weapons and updated renditions of multiplayer maps from Battlefield 2, Close Quarters will include four brand new maps, as well as ten new weapons. None of the maps will feature vehicles of any sort as they are set inside buildings, with – you guessed it – close quarters combat always present. Close Quarters is set for release in June.
Battlefield 3’s third DLC, Armored Kill, will bring back vehicles – new ones, in fact- and will feature the largest map that DICE has created for any of its games. The expansion is expected to release sometime this fall.
The final expansion pack, aptly titled End Game, will release sometime this winter. No details have been released for it at this time.
In addition to the expansion packs, DICE is planning on implementing a “rent-a-server” feature that will presumably allow players to pay a specified amount of money to gain control of a server for a certain amount of time.
With tons of more Battlefield 3 content on the way, fans of the game are sure to have plenty of reasons to continue playing DICE’s latest shooter. Are you looking forward to the new content? Sound off in the comments.
