In 2007, Valve began the Meet the Team video series, in which each character class in Team Fortress 2 receives its own short to describe its personality and story. Up until now, eight out of nine classes have received a video; this Wednesday, Valve is completing the series with Meet the Pyro.
However, there’s more planned than just a short video. Valve is releasing a new update – fittingly titled the Pyromania update – for Team Fortress 2 that adds new a new game mode. The mode, titled Doomsday, is described on Valve’s Doomsday page:
Doomsday pits BLU against RED, with only one team getting the honor of transporting a suitcase nuke full of recalled Mann Co. Australium to American monkeynaut Poopy Joe’s rocket, so he can blast off and hunt down Soviet space chimp Vladimir Bananas. It’s the same spirit of competitive enterprise that stalled the moon landing by three years when Buzz Aldrin suplexed Neil Armstrong into a pile of folding chairs at Astromania ’69! Both teams will attempt to get the necessary fuel up a preposterously slow-moving elevator and into Poopy Joe’s Australium-powered rocket to the stars.
The update also adds eleven new achievements to the game, each of which is Doomsday-related.
In addition to the update, television network Adult Swim has hinted at a Team Fortress 2-related collaboration with Valve. While the specifics of the collaboration have yet to be revealed, more details are set to be revealed this week, in conjunction with the Pyromania update.
With a new game mode, new achievements, an Adult Swim promotion, and an expectedly hilarious short on the way, Team Fortress 2 players have a lot to look forward to this week.
