North American and European PlayStation 3 owners looking to play the next Tales game won’t have to wait too much longer, as Namco Bandai’s Tales of Xillia is set for release this August.
Tales of Xillia is the thirteenth flagship, or main, title in the Tales series. The game’s story revolves around Jude Mathis, Milla Maxwell, and their allies as they track down the cause of many recent spirit deaths. The game’s battle system, known in this iteration as the “Dual Raid Linear Motion Battle System,” allows for players to link two characters together in order to unleash powerful attacks.
On August 6, the game will be released to North American audiences by Namco Bandai. Three days later, on August 9, the game will be released in Europe as well. In addition to the standard edition, two special editions of the game will be released: the D1 Edition and the Milla Maxwell Collector’s Edition. The D1 Edition of Tales of Xillia, exclusive to Europe, includes the game, a Tales of Xillia art book, and a CD featuring select music from the game. The Milla Maxwell Collector’s Edition includes all of the contents of the D1 Edition, as well as a limited edition figure of Milla, and will be sold in both Europe and North America.
The Tales series was known for its sporadic localization prior to last year, as its publisher, Namco Bandai, let many of the more significant titles in the series stay exclusive to Japan. Before last year’s release of Tales of Graces f, the last major North American or European release was 2008’s Tales of Vesperia for Xbox 360. Beginning with the release of Graces f, however, Namco Bandai has established a sort of recommitment to the series outside of Asia.
Tales of Xillia will be released in North America on August 6 exclusively for PlayStation 3, and in Europe on August 9.

Can’t wait for it to be released! 😀
I’m so excited to play this. 😀 Every friend I have who’s already gone through it really liked the characters and characters are the whole reason I play Tales in the first place.
I guess I’m a little bummed at the date since my usual play partner won’t be around for another month after it comes out but I guess I can go through it alone and do my completion run(s) with him.
I’ve heard so many mixed things about Xillia, I’m kind of reluctant to get too excited about it. For everyone who loves it, there’s someone who says the game feels incomplete, and the characters look so generic. It comes out the day before my birthday though, so…yay?
So long as it’s not bad, I’ll probably enjoy it. The only Tales game I’ve found absolutely unplayable is Legendia and so long as this one is better, I’ll be happy.
It’s a win-win situation haha. It will be around August and no big games will be released around then hopefully so I’ll be looking forward to playing it.
That collector’s edition looks really spiffy. I think I’ll aim for that. o3o
After my exam on Saturday, I’m gonna head to EB Games and switch my preorder to the collector’s edition, assuming it’s in the system.
*u* That’s an excellent Collector’s Edition.
I reeeaaally like the Milla figure. 😀
I wonder if we’ll see it. Called GameStop regarding this but they said they only took preorders on the regular edition :/
Well, it was only announced today. It might take a while for it to get into their systems.
It also occurs to me that Namco-Bandai has done special editions through their website before, too. The Wizard’s Edition for Ni no Kuni was only offered through their site so it’s possible the edition with the Milla figure will be the same. I’ll cancel my preorder and redo it with N-B if that’s the case but I’d like to be able to order and pick it up in person because although I came out alright in the whole Wizard Edition fiasco, they didn’t handle that well at all. <<;

Well, checking the GameStop website tonight and found out that the Collector’s edition is available there as well.
It’s not up on the Canadian site yet but weather permitting, I’m gonna go try to switch the order tomorrow after my final anyway. :>
