The Xbox One may be releasing later this year, but that doesn’t mean Microsoft has forgotten its second gaming machine. The company is set to release not just a new model of the system this year, but also a new program for Xbox Live users.
During the company’s press conference today, Microsoft announced that a new Xbox 360 model based on the design of the Xbox One will be available in stores starting today. The revision sports a pitch-black color scheme, a glossy finish, and more defined edges over previous Xbox 360 models.
Alongside the announcement came news of a new program Microsoft will be implementing for Xbox Live Gold users starting this July. Every month, the service will be updated with two free games. The first couple of games are Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed II and Bungie’s Halo 3.
The redesign and free games have currently only been confirmed for North America.

It’s about time they borrowed Sony’s idea. I mean, the games they’ve chosen so far are old and everyone’s got them but if people haven’t picked up a 360 yet and get Gold, there’s really no better introduction to what the 360 has to offer than AC2 and Halo 3.
Wonder how the fine print works. I assume it’ll be the same as PS+ (ie, you lose the games as soon as your Gold expires).
